On March 16, our team at the Clover Foundation had the privilege of volunteering at the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery. Our group had the responsibility of preparing dinner for 17 kids and 7 adults, which we served and cleaned the dining area afterwards.
During our time at the nursery, we prepared the food based on the instructions written on the recipe. For dinner, the menu was beef quesadillas, corn, and oranges, all of which were prepared by hand by our group. We arrived at 4:00 PM, to prepare for dinner at 5:00 PM.
We started off by splitting into three groups. One responsible for preparing the beef for the quesadillas, one making the corn, and the last group helping peel oranges and divide them into slices. The quesadilla group was responsible for making sure the ground beef was cooked, and stirring in salsa into the beef, followed by toasting and plating the tortillas with cheese and beef, creating a quesadilla. The group that made the corn was responsible for making sure the corn was fully heated and adding butter to the corn. The fruit group was responsible for cutting grapes and making sure the oranges were all separated.
Dinner began at 5:00 PM, and a few of our volunteers went to help serve the kids the food. We were assigned to plate the food and give each of the kids a plate. Afterwards, we helped sweep and wipe down the tables at the dining room.
Ultimately, this experience was extremely wholesome, entertaining, and we are very grateful to the Crisis Nursery for giving us this opportunity, and we’re looking forward to coming back.
